Florida Institute of Ultrasound, Inc. – Teach-Out Notification and Student Disclosure

Florida Institute of Ultrasound, Inc.’s (FIU ) accrediting agency, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), reviewed the schools accreditation record at the July 2022 Commission meeting and affirmed its decision to withdraw the school’s accreditation for findings of non-compliance and standard-related directives that the school has the financial resources to ensure continuity of operation and to fulfill its obligations to students and employees; and, the on-site administrator demonstrates effective management capability.

FIU filed an Intent to Appeal with ABHES but after careful consideration and consultation with our attorney, the school decided not to continue with the appeals process. We then submitted a Teach-Out Plan requesting ABHES allow the classes that were affected by the loss of accreditation to be able to complete their program here at FIU and graduate from an accredited school. ABHES granted the request to continue accreditation to June 23, 2023 to Teach-Out the students in the Teach-Out plan. The request was granted for our October 2021 (12 students), January 2022 (15) , April 2022 (13 students) and July 2022 classes (14 students).

After receipt of FIU’s decision not to continue with the appeals process as outlined in the ABHES Commission’s August 11, 2022 letter, The Commission’s action to withdraw accreditation is final effective October 6, 2022. ABHES letter dated October 5, 2022 directs FIU to periodically update the Commission on the status of the students in the Teach-Out Plan until the final date of June 23, 2023.

FIU has no intention of closing the school. Beginning September 27, 2022, the school will operate as a non-accredited school. We will continue to provide the same quality education in ultrasound that we have provided for the last 46 years.

Florida Institute of Ultrasound, Inc. has the financial capability to carry out its mission and is able to meet all financial obligations to operate for existing and future students. FIU will continue to enroll students with the following methods of payment – in-school cash payment plans, Florida Prepaid, outside scholarships presented to the school by students and the consideration of other payment options.
